Evolution of the Courtown Estates in Ireland, 1650-1940

This time-enabled map has been created in ESRI’s ArcMap software and shows the evolution of the Courtown Estates in Ireland from the 1650s to 1940. The date is shown at the top of the map, while the land held by the Stopfords is displayed in yellow.

The map includes 268 townlands across 11 counties over a period of nearly 300 years. It is based on a wide range of historical sources, in particular deeds located in the National Library of Ireland, and the Courtown papers (TCD MS 11183). The map was created using a townlands shapefile downloaded from openstreetmap.ie’s townlands website.
