I have a broad range of research interests and often take an interdisciplinary approach, combining my knowledge of history with historical geography and literature. While my focus is nineteenth century Irish history, my thesis covered the period from the Cromwellian settlement through to Independence, and Britain as well as Ireland.

Family History: I have training in genealogical research techniques, but also in the history of family. In my the
Life Writing: I am particularly interested in the use of letters and diaries as a source, and am currently looking at ways of presenting historical biographies.
My research interests lie in the history of landed estates; environmental, maritime and rural history; local, family and demographic history, and the use of letters and diaries as historical sources.
